Here's the simple version: your medicine pairs hydrocodone, a narcotic cough and pain reliever that makes you drowsy, with pseudoephedrine, a decongestant. The concern is only with the hydrocodone side. Bay leaf contains a compound called methyl eugenol, and in animal studies it showed mild sedative effects. So in theory, taking large, concentrated bay leaf supplements alongside hydrocodone could add to the sleepiness, leaving you more drowsy, foggy, or lightheaded than usual.

I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern based on lab and animal work, not real human cases. The bay leaf you sprinkle in soup or stew won't cause trouble. If you're thinking about concentrated bay leaf capsules or essential oils, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
