Preliminary clinical research shows that bay leaf can lower blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes who are already taking antidiabetes medication. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments may be necessary.

Here's the simple version: insulin already lowers your blood sugar, and bay leaf taken as a concentrated supplement may nudge it down a little further. Stack the two together and you could drift into low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) more easily. With insulin, that can show up as shakiness, sweating, a fast heartbeat, confusion, irritability, or feeling faint.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern based on how bay leaf seems to behave, and the bay leaf you sprinkle in soup or a pot of beans is very unlikely to do anything. The caution is really about concentrated supplements or extracts. If you take insulin and want to use bay leaf that way, check your sugars more closely and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything. Never adjust your insulin on your own.

Novolin (human insulin injection) is used to improve glycemic control — meaning blood sugar management — in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.

Novolin 70/30 is a fixed-ratio mixture of intermediate-acting and short-acting human insulin. Because the ratio is fixed, it cannot be adjusted separately for background (basal) or mealtime (prandial) needs.
