Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to know about Estratest, which combines esterified estrogens with methyltestosterone: the estrogen part can slow down how your body clears caffeine. Your liver uses an enzyme (CYP1A2) to break caffeine down, and estrogen tends to put the brakes on it. So the caffeine from your black tea may stick around longer and feel stronger than usual.

In real life, that can mean more jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling wired, especially if you drink several cups a day. This is considered a likely but fairly mild interaction. A cup or two probably won't cause trouble for most people, but if you notice these symptoms, it's worth chatting with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
