Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Caffeine (OTC drug)
Caffeine (OTC drug) falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Brussels Sprout interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: your body clears caffeine mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Brussels sprouts contain natural compounds that, in lab and animal studies, seem to speed up that enzyme. If that holds true in people, it could mean caffeine is broken down a little faster, so a cup of coffee or a Vivarin tablet might feel slightly less strong or wear off sooner.
Honestly, though, this is mostly theoretical and based on weak evidence, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Normal dinner-plate portions of Brussels sprouts are very unlikely to noticeably change how caffeine affects you. If you ever feel caffeine just isn't working like it used to, that's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.

“The person swallowing a caffeine pill like Vivarin to power through a shift is often the same person drinking coffee, taking an herbal energy blend, or scooping pre-workout powder, and that overlap is exactly where the danger sits. Seven of the 208 supplement ingredients on file carry a major rating, and those seven are worth understan…”

About Brussels Sprout
What is Brussels Sprout?
- General nutrition and fiber
- Antioxidant support
- Digestive health
- Heart health support
- Cancer-prevention interest
Brussels sprouts are a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and plant compounds called glucosinolates. Eating them as part of a balanced diet is healthy and safe for most people, but supplement-style claims (like preventing cancer) are not well proven. If you take blood thinners or have thyroid concerns, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about your intake.
