Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Propranolol
Propranolol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Brussels Sprout interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for propranolol. Your body partly clears this beta blocker using a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Animal studies hint that compounds in Brussels sprouts may rev that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in people, your body could clear propranolol a little faster, which in theory might make it work less well. That could mean your blood pressure, heart rate, tremor, or migraines aren't as well controlled.
The honest truth is this is theoretical and comes only from lab and animal research, not real-world cases. Eating Brussels sprouts as part of a normal diet is very unlikely to throw off your propranolol. I wouldn't avoid this healthy veggie. If you eat large amounts regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on how you feel.

About Brussels Sprout
What is Brussels Sprout?
- General nutrition and fiber
- Antioxidant support
- Digestive health
- Heart health support
- Cancer-prevention interest
Brussels sprouts are a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and plant compounds called glucosinolates. Eating them as part of a balanced diet is healthy and safe for most people, but supplement-style claims (like preventing cancer) are not well proven. If you take blood thinners or have thyroid concerns, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about your intake.
About Propranolol (Cardiovascular)
What Is Propranolol (Cardiovascular) Used For?
Brand names: Inderal LA, Inderal, Angilol, Syprol, Inderal Injection, Half-Inderal LA, Bedranol SR, Half Beta Prograne, Beta Prograne, Lopranol LA, Slo-Pro, InnoPran XL
This intravenous (IV) form of propranolol is used in hospital or clinical settings to treat dangerous heart rhythm problems. It is generally reserved for life-threatening arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) or those that occur during anesthesia.
Specific conditions it treats include fast heart rates coming from the upper chambers of the heart (supraventricular tachycardia), certain arrhythmias caused by digitalis toxicity, dangerous ventricular rhythms that haven't responded to other treatments, and fast heart rates caused by excess adrenaline-like substances during surgery.
