Cyclobenzaprine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Brussels Sprout interacts with.

Animal research suggests that Brussels sprout can induce cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) activity. Theoretically, Brussels sprout might increase the clearance and decrease the effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2. Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include clozapine (Clozaril), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), fluvoxamine (Luvox), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), mexiletine (Mexitil), olanzapine (Zyprexa), pentazocine (Talwin), propranolol (Inderal), tacrine (Cognex), theophylline, zileuton (Zyflo), zolmitriptan (Zomig), and others.

Here's the simple version: your body relies on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to break down cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril). Some animal research hints that Brussels sprouts may speed that enzyme up. If that happened in people, your body could clear the medicine a little faster, which might make it feel like the muscle relaxer isn't working as well, so you'd notice less relief from your back or muscle tightness.

The good news is this is only theoretical, based on lab and animal studies, not real patient cases. A normal serving of Brussels sprouts on your dinner plate is very unlikely to cause any noticeable problem. If you're eating large amounts daily or taking concentrated supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how well your medication is working.

What Is Cyclobenzaprine Used For?

Brand names: Cyclobenzaprine, Flexeril, Cycloprine

Cyclobenzaprine tablets and extended-release capsules are used alongside rest and physical therapy to relieve muscle spasm caused by acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions — easing pain, tenderness, and limited movement. This use is intended for short-term treatment only (up to 2–3 weeks).

Tonmya, the sublingual (under-the-tongue) form of cyclobenzaprine, is separately indicated for the treatment of fibromyalgia in adults. It is not the same as the oral tablet or capsule formulations.
