GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS
Why this applies to Morphine Sulfate
Morphine Sulfate falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Brussels Sprout interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist: your body clears morphine largely by attaching a sugar molecule to it, a process called glucuronidation. Some research suggests that eating a lot of cruciferous veggies like Brussels sprouts and cabbage can speed up that clearance pathway. In theory, that could mean a bit less morphine hanging around, which might make your pain relief feel weaker than usual.
Honestly, this is a fairly gentle, mostly theoretical concern, and normal amounts of Brussels sprouts at dinner are very unlikely to throw off your pain control. If you're managing serious, around-the-clock pain and you suddenly start eating large amounts daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how well your dose is working. Don't change your morphine on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Morphine Sulfate page
“With morphine sulfate (MS Contin, Kadian, Avinza), an opioid powerful enough to slow breathing on its own, this list warrants genuine respect. Of the 172 supplements and foods on file, 8 carry a major rating, and most of those pile extra sedation onto a drug that already sedates.”

About Brussels Sprout
What is Brussels Sprout?
- General nutrition and fiber
- Antioxidant support
- Digestive health
- Heart health support
- Cancer-prevention interest
Brussels sprouts are a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and plant compounds called glucosinolates. Eating them as part of a balanced diet is healthy and safe for most people, but supplement-style claims (like preventing cancer) are not well proven. If you take blood thinners or have thyroid concerns, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about your intake.
About Morphine
What Is Morphine Used For?
Brand names: MS Contin, Kadian, Avinza, Morphabond, Arymo ER
Morphine is used to manage acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) pain that is severe enough to need an opioid and that hasn't been adequately treated by other options. The higher-concentration liquid form is reserved for adults who are already opioid-tolerant — meaning their body is used to opioid medications.
Because of real risks of addiction, misuse, and overdose, morphine is only prescribed when other pain treatments have not worked or are not expected to work. It is not intended for long-term use unless the pain continues to be severe and no alternatives are suitable.
