In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces CYP2C9 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP2C9 substrates; however, this has not been studied in humans.

Here's the gist with Bulbine natalensis and your omeprazole (the Konvomep combo also has sodium bicarbonate). Lab studies hint that this plant may speed up an enzyme called CYP2C9, which helps your body process omeprazole. If that happened in real life, your omeprazole could get cleared a little faster and work less well, so you might notice your heartburn, acid reflux, or stomach discomfort creeping back.

The important part: this is only theoretical, based on test-tube research, with nothing shown in actual people. So I wouldn't panic. That said, Bulbine has raised liver and kidney safety questions in animals, so it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Don't stop or change your omeprazole on your own.

Here's the gist for your Konvomep (omeprazole plus sodium bicarbonate). Lab studies suggest Bulbine natalensis may rev up an enzyme in your liver called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways that helps clear omeprazole from your body. If that enzyme speeds up, your omeprazole could be broken down a little faster, meaning less acid-suppressing power. In real terms, that might show up as heartburn or stomach discomfort creeping back when you expected relief.

I want to be honest though: this is purely a theoretical, test-tube concern. It has never been studied in people, so we don't know if it matters at all in real life. Given that Bulbine itself raises liver and kidney safety questions, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
