Here's the gist for anyone using insulin glargine (Basaglar, Lusduna, Semglee) and curious about the dream herb. In animal studies, Calea zacatechichi appeared to nudge blood sugar down on its own. Since glargine already lowers your blood sugar across the day, stacking the two could, in theory, push your numbers a little too low. That's hypoglycemia, and it can show up as shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, dizziness, confusion, or feeling unusually hungry.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is theoretical and based on animal data, not real-world human reports, and it's rated minor. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you decide to try the herb, keep an eye on your readings and let your pharmacist or doctor know before adding it, especially since glargine doses are dialed in carefully.

What Is Insulin Glargine (rDNA origin) Injection Used For?

Brand names: Basaglar, Lusduna, Semglee

Insulin glargine is used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in adults and pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, and in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a long-acting basal insulin, meaning it works gradually over the course of the day to keep blood sugar steady.

Insulin glargine is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the blood becomes dangerously acidic).
