Here's the simple version: meperidine is a strong opioid pain reliever, and one of its main jobs is to calm down the brain and nervous system. Calea zacatechichi (the 'dream herb') appears to have its own mild brain-slowing effect, at least in animal studies and some human reports. Stack the two together and, in theory, you could feel extra drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or unusually relaxed.

I want to be honest about the strength of this concern, though. It's based on how these things work on paper, not on solid studies in people, so it's rated minor. Still, with a medication like meperidine, I'd play it safe. If you ever feel very sleepy, confused, or notice slow breathing, treat that seriously and check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
