Perampanel already tends to make people drowsy, dizzy, and a bit unsteady, and it can affect mood or coordination, especially when you first start it or move up in dose. Calea zacatechichi has been shown to cause its own calming, sedating effect in both animals and people. So the worry is simple: stacking the two could leave you sleepier or more lightheaded than you'd expect.

Now, the honest part. This is a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not something proven in studies of the two together, and it's rated as minor. Perampanel is not a prodrug, so this isn't about changing how your body breaks it down. Calea zacatechichi, often called 'dream herb,' is a Mexican plant traditionally used to encourage vivid dreams and to treat digestive complaints and fever. Human research is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven, and its safety has not been carefully studied. It tastes very bitter, can cause nausea, and should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

About Perampanel

What Is Perampanel Used For?

Brand name: Fycompa

Perampanel — available as Fycompa and in generic forms — is used to treat partial-onset seizures (seizures that start in one area of the brain) in patients with epilepsy aged 4 years and older. Both the tablet and oral suspension forms carry this indication.

Perampanel tablets and oral suspension are also approved as add-on (adjunctive) therapy for primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal seizures involving the whole brain at once) in patients with epilepsy aged 12 years and older. Fycompa oral suspension and tablet share both indications.
