Here's the simple version: clorazepate (Tranxene) is a benzodiazepine that already calms the brain and can leave you feeling drowsy, relaxed, or a little foggy. Calea zacatechichi, the so-called dream herb, seems to have its own mild calming effect on the nervous system in animals and humans. Stack the two together and you could, in theory, feel more sedated than usual (think extra sleepiness, slowed reactions, or trouble concentrating).

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not proven cases. The herb isn't changing how your body breaks down clorazepate, so it's rated minor. Still, if you ever decide to try this herb, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor first, and don't drive until you know how the combination feels.

What Is Clorazepate Used For?

Brand names: Tranxene, Tranxene T-Tab, Tranxene SD

Clorazepate dipotassium tablets are used to manage anxiety disorders or to provide short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. They are also used as an add-on (adjunctive) therapy alongside other medications to help control partial seizures in adults and children aged 9 and older.

In addition, clorazepate dipotassium tablets are used for symptomatic relief during acute alcohol withdrawal — helping to ease the physical symptoms that can occur when someone suddenly stops drinking.
