Meperidine falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Pinellia Ternata interacts with.

Evidence from animal research shows that a Pinellia ternata preparation decreases activity and increases sleeping time. Theoretically, Pinellia ternata can potentiate the therapeutic effect of CNS depressants. Some of these medications include antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, and others.

Here's the gist for meperidine (a narcotic pain reliever) and Pinellia ternata. In animal studies, this herb seemed to calm the nervous system, lowering activity and lengthening sleep time. The concern is that it could add to the sedating effects of medicines that already slow the brain down, and meperidine is one of those.

If the two stacked their effects, you might feel more drowsy, dizzy, or foggy than usual, with slower breathing in heavier cases. I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical and comes only from lab and animal work, not human data, so the real-world risk is uncertain. Still, sedation on top of sedation is worth respecting. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
