Amobarbital, Secobarbital falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Pinellia Ternata interacts with.

Evidence from animal research shows that a Pinellia ternata preparation decreases activity and increases sleeping time. Theoretically, Pinellia ternata can potentiate the therapeutic effect of CNS depressants. Some of these medications include antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, and others.

Tuinal contains two barbiturates (amobarbital and secobarbital) that calm the brain and help with sleep. The concern here is simple overlap: animal studies suggest Pinellia ternata can also have a sedating, calming effect. Stack the two together and you may feel more drowsy, foggy, or unsteady than expected, with slower breathing being the most serious worry with any barbiturate.

I want to keep this in perspective, though. The evidence is theoretical and based only on animal research, not human studies, so we don't really know how strong this is in people. Still, barbiturates are powerful and unforgiving, so it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Please don't change your Tuinal dose on your own.

Theoretically, Pinellia ternata can potentiate the therapeutic effect of barbiturates. Some of these sedative medications include pentobarbital (Nembutal), phenobarbital (Luminal), secobarbital (Seconal), and others.

Tuinal combines two strong barbiturate sedatives, amobarbital and secobarbital. They're already powerful at calming the brain and bringing on sleep, so anything that adds to that effect deserves caution. In animal studies, a Pinellia ternata preparation lowered activity and lengthened sleeping time, which hints it could pile onto a barbiturate's sedation.

So in theory, taking them together might leave you more drowsy, groggy, unsteady, or slow to wake up than expected. I want to be honest, though: this is based on lab and animal research only, not human studies, so we can't say how much it matters in real people. Given how potent these medicines are, please don't combine them without first running it by your doctor or pharmacist.
