Evidence from animal research shows that a Pinellia ternata preparation decreases activity and increases sleeping time. Theoretically, Pinellia ternata can potentiate the therapeutic effect of CNS depressants. Some of these medications include antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, and others.

Here's the gist with Pinellia ternata and cetirizine (Zyrtec). Cetirizine is a so-called second-generation antihistamine, so it's usually less sedating than older ones, but it can still make some people feel drowsy or sluggish. Pinellia ternata has been shown in animal studies to lower activity and lengthen sleep time, which suggests it may add to that drowsy effect.

So the concern is simple: taken together, you could feel a bit more tired, foggy, or slowed down than with either one alone. I'll be honest, this is a theoretical worry based on animal data, not human studies, so the real-world risk is uncertain. Still, go easy on driving or other focus-heavy tasks until you know how you feel, and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Cetirizine Injection Used For?

Brand names: Cetirizine, Zyrtec, Quzyttir

Quzyttir (cetirizine injection) is approved to treat acute urticaria — a sudden outbreak of hives — in adults and in children 6 months of age and older. It is given by intravenous (IV) injection in a medically supervised setting.

Quzyttir is not recommended for children under 6 years of age who have impaired kidney or liver function.
