Here's the gist with nelarabine (Atriance) and the dream herb. Nelarabine is a chemotherapy drug, and one of its known side effects is on the nervous system. It can cause drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, and other neurological effects. So this isn't about your liver breaking the drug down faster or slower. It's simply that the dream herb itself can have a calming, sedating effect on the brain.

The worry on file is that adding a sedating herb on top of a drug that already affects your nervous system could leave you feeling extra drowsy or foggy. I'll be honest though, this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal observations, so the real-world risk is low. Since you're on chemo, please run any supplement past your oncology team first.

Calea zacatechichi, often called 'dream herb,' is a Mexican plant traditionally used to encourage vivid dreams and to treat digestive complaints and fever. Human research is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven, and its safety has not been carefully studied. It tastes very bitter, can cause nausea, and should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

About Nelarabine Injection

What Is Nelarabine Injection Used For?

Brand name: Atriance

Nelarabine injection (brand name Arranon) is used to treat two aggressive blood cancers: T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) and T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL). It is approved for adult and pediatric patients age 1 year and older whose disease has not responded to — or has come back after — at least two prior chemotherapy regimens.

Nelarabine injection may also be given in combination with multi-agent chemotherapy as part of treatment for newly diagnosed T-ALL and T-LBL in certain settings, as studied in clinical trials.
