Carisoprodol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
Research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2C19. In clinical studies and case reports, cannabidiol use resulted in significant increases in the serum levels of topiramate, methadone, citalopram, omeprazole, and N-desmethylclobazam, the primary active metabolite of clobazam. These chemicals are metabolized by CYP2C19. Concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2C19 substrates may increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates.

Here's the gist for Soma (carisoprodol) and CBD. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C19 to help break carisoprodol down. CBD slows that enzyme, so carisoprodol can clear more slowly and build up in your system. Since carisoprodol isn't a prodrug (it works as-is), more drug hanging around means a stronger effect than you bargained for.

In real terms, that could mean extra drowsiness, dizziness, grogginess, or feeling unsteady on your feet. Both of these can make you sleepy on their own, so stacking them adds up. This is well-supported for CYP2C19 in general, though it hasn't been studied head-to-head with carisoprodol. Please don't stop or change anything on your own. Just loop in your pharmacist or doctor first.

Carisoprodol tablets — sold under the brand name Soma, as well as generic versions — are used to relieve discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions in adults. Think short-term muscle pain and stiffness from things like lower back injuries.

This medication is intended only for short-term use — up to two or three weeks. It has not been proven effective for longer-term use, and the muscle conditions it treats are generally short-lived by nature.
