Why this applies to Glipizide, Metformin

Glipizide, Metformin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2C9. In human studies, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of topiramate and losartan, CYP2C9 substrates. Concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2C9 substrates may increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates.

This combo pill has two parts, and CBD really only tangles with one of them: the glipizide. Glipizide is cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, and CBD can slow that enzyme down. When the enzyme works slower, glipizide can hang around longer and build up. Since glipizide already lowers blood sugar, more of it in your system can push your sugar too low. Watch for signs like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, or feeling confused or unusually hungry.

The metformin half doesn't go through this enzyme, so CBD isn't expected to change it much. Please don't stop or adjust anything on your own. Just check in with your pharmacist or doctor, who may want you to monitor your blood sugar a bit more closely if you add CBD.
