Proguanil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
Research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2C19. In clinical studies and case reports, cannabidiol use resulted in significant increases in the serum levels of topiramate, methadone, citalopram, omeprazole, and N-desmethylclobazam, the primary active metabolite of clobazam. These chemicals are metabolized by CYP2C19. Concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2C19 substrates may increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates.

Here's a wrinkle worth knowing about. Proguanil is actually a prodrug, meaning your body has to convert it into its active form, called cycloguanil, and the enzyme CYP2C19 does that job. CBD blocks (inhibits) that same enzyme. So in theory, CBD could slow the conversion of proguanil into the active form that fights malaria parasites, which might make it a little less effective at preventing or treating malaria.

I'll be straight with you: this specific pairing hasn't been studied directly, and the strong CYP2C19 evidence comes from other drugs. Still, since you usually take proguanil to prevent malaria, it's not something to gamble with. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them so your protection stays solid.
