Valsartan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2C9. In human studies, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of topiramate and losartan, CYP2C9 substrates. Concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2C9 substrates may increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates.

Here's the simple version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to help clear valsartan. CBD can slow that enzyme down, so valsartan may linger a bit longer and build up. Since valsartan is an active drug (not a prodrug that needs switching on), higher levels mean a stronger blood-pressure-lowering effect.

In real life, that could show up as feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or unusually tired, especially when you stand up quickly. This is based on solid human studies with similar drugs, so it's worth taking seriously, but it doesn't mean you can't use both. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your blood pressure if you do combine them.

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have a weakened heart muscle. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (other brands) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
