Clinical research shows that some casein peptides, including the lactotripeptides isoleucine-proline-proline (IPP) and valine-proline-proline (VPP), can modestly reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

Here's the gist: olmesartan (Benicar) already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. Casein peptides may gently nudge blood pressure down too, since some milk-derived lactotripeptides appear to block the same ACE pathway your body uses to keep pressure up. Stack the two together and the effects could add up a bit, so your pressure might drop a little lower than usual.

To be fair, the blood pressure effect from casein peptides is modest and the evidence is fairly limited. Most people won't notice much. Still, if you feel dizzy, lightheaded, unusually tired, or you stand up and feel woozy, that's worth paying attention to. Don't change your olmesartan on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before adding these supplements.

What Is Olmesartan Used For?

Brand names: Olmesartan Medoxomil, Benicar

Olmesartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children aged 6 years and older. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

It is available as Benicar and as generic olmesartan medoxomil tablets, including a combination tablet with hydrochlorothiazide. All of these products are used for high blood pressure.
