Clinical research shows that some casein peptides, including the lactotripeptides isoleucine-proline-proline (IPP) and valine-proline-proline (VPP), can modestly reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

Here's the simple version: metolazone is a water pill that already lowers your blood pressure by helping your kidneys flush out extra salt and fluid. Casein peptides may nudge blood pressure down a little on their own, possibly by gently blocking the same ACE enzyme that some blood pressure drugs target. Stack the two together and you could get a slightly bigger drop than you bargained for.

That added effect is mild and the research behind it is modest, so this isn't a reason to panic. Still, watch for signs your pressure went too low, like dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, or feeling unusually tired. If you'd like to try casein peptides, run it past your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

What Is Metolazone Used For?

Brand names: Diulo, Zaroxolyn, Mykrox

Metolazone tablets are used to treat edema (excess fluid buildup) linked to congestive heart failure or kidney diseases — including nephrotic syndrome and conditions with reduced kidney function. They are also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either alone or alongside other blood pressure medications.

Metolazone tablets may also be used during pregnancy when edema is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not appropriate.
