Omeprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Clove interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of clove may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that eugenol, the principal constituent of clove, can inhibit CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for omeprazole and clove. Your body partly clears omeprazole using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, eugenol (the main oil in clove) can slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, omeprazole might hang around a bit longer and its effect could be slightly stronger, which could mean a little more chance of side effects like headache, nausea, gas, or diarrhea.

The important part: this is only theoretical, based on test-tube research, and it has never actually been shown in people. Sprinkling clove on food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated clove oil or supplements are the bigger question. If you're using clove medicinally and take omeprazole regularly, just give your pharmacist a quick heads-up so we can keep an eye on things.

Here's the gist for omeprazole and clove. Lab studies suggest that eugenol, the main oil in clove, can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear omeprazole. If that enzyme gets blocked, omeprazole could in theory linger a bit longer and have a slightly stronger effect. Omeprazole is generally well tolerated, but more of it on board might mean a higher chance of mild things like headache, stomach upset, or nausea.

Honestly though, this has only been seen in test-tube studies, never in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Sprinkling clove on your food is no concern. If you're using concentrated clove oil or supplements regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

Clove is a common cooking spice that is also used in traditional medicine, especially as a topical numbing agent for tooth pain thanks to its main compound, eugenol. Food amounts are generally safe, but concentrated clove oil and supplements can be irritating or toxic if overused, and human evidence for most health claims is limited. About Omeprazole

What Is Omeprazole Used For?

Brand names: Prilosec, Zegerid, Losec

Omeprazole is used to treat a range of conditions where stomach acid causes problems. These include heartburn and acid reflux (GERD), erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from acid), and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It can also be used alongside antibiotics to help get rid of an H. pylori infection — a bacteria that causes ulcers.

In more serious cases, omeprazole is used to manage conditions where the stomach produces far too much acid, such as pathologic hypersecretory conditions (rare medical disorders that cause extreme acid overproduction). It is approved for adults and children one year of age and older for GERD and erosive esophagitis.
