Nicardipine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Dhea interacts with.

Theoretically, DHEA might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Some preliminary evidence shows that DHEA may inhibit CYP3A4; however, the clinical significance of this potential interaction is not known.

Here's the gist: your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down nicardipine. There's some early, limited evidence that DHEA might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happens, your nicardipine could clear out more slowly and build up in your blood, nudging its effects up. With a blood pressure medicine, that might show up as dizziness, lightheadedness, flushing, headache, swelling in the ankles, or your pressure dropping lower than intended.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's mostly theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal data, so the real-world effect for most people may be small or none at all. Still, since nicardipine controls something important, it's worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor before adding DHEA, especially if you already run low on blood pressure.

What Is Nicardipine Used For?

Brand names: Cardene, Cardene SR, Cardene IV

Nicardipine Hydrochloride capsules are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and chronic stable angina (chest pain that comes on with physical effort). The capsules can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure or heart medications.

Intravenous (IV) nicardipine products — including Cardene I.V., Nicardipine Hydrochloride Injection, and Nicardipine Hydrochloride in Sodium Chloride — are used for the short-term treatment of high blood pressure in hospital settings when a patient cannot take oral medication. Once stable, patients are switched to oral therapy.
