Why this applies to Ethanol

Ethanol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) SUBSTRATES — the group Diosmin interacts with.

Theoretically, diosmin might inhibit the metabolism of CYP2E1 substrates.
Chlorzoxazone is metabolized by CYP2E1 enzymes. A pharmacokinetic study in humans shows that taking diosmin (Venex 500) 500 mg daily for 9 days prior to oral administration of chlorzoxazone (Paraflex 250) 250 mg increases blood levels of chlorzoxazone by 34% and decreases chlorzoxazone clearance by 40%. It is speculated that diosmin reduces the metabolism of chlorzoxazone by inhibiting CYP2E1.

Here's the idea behind this one. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2E1 to help break down alcohol (ethanol), and diosmin may gently slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could mean alcohol hangs around a little longer or clears a touch slower, which might make its effects, like drowsiness, flushing, or feeling buzzed, last a bit longer than you'd expect.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It's theoretical, based mostly on how diosmin behaved with a different CYP2E1 drug, not with alcohol itself. For most people having an occasional drink while taking diosmin, this is unlikely to cause a real problem. Still, if you drink regularly or have liver concerns, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.

Diosmin is a citrus-derived flavonoid most often used for vein-related problems such as chronic venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids, and it is usually combined with a related flavonoid called hesperidin. Some studies suggest it may help relieve leg swelling and hemorrhoid symptoms, but quality varies.
