Serotonergic drugs include the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil), and sertraline (Zoloft); tricyclic and atypical antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil), clomipramine (Anafranil), and imipramine (Tofranil); triptans such as sumatriptan (Imitrex), zolmitriptan (Zomig), and rizatriptan (Maxalt); opioids such as methadone (Dolophine) and tramadol (Ultram); and many other medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with the Xelstrym patch (dextroamphetamine) and ergot. Dextroamphetamine nudges up serotonin activity in the brain, and ergot alkaloids can act on serotonin receptors too. Put them together and, in theory, you could stack too much serotonin signaling. That raises the risk of what we call serotonin syndrome: things like agitation, a racing heart, high blood pressure, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or feeling confused.
I'll be honest about the evidence here, it's mostly theoretical and based on scattered case reports, not strong studies. On top of that, ergot is a genuinely toxic herb that isn't safe to take on its own. If you ever think you need something with ergot in it, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor first so they can watch for these signs.
STIMULANT DRUGS

Some stimulant drugs include albuterol (Proventil, Ventolin), diethylpropion (Tenuate), dopamine, epinephrine, phentermine (Ionamin), pseudoephedrine (Sudafed), and many others.

Here's the thing to know about pairing Xelstrym (dextroamphetamine patch) with ergot. Both of these can tighten and narrow your blood vessels. Dextroamphetamine is a stimulant, so it already tends to raise blood pressure, speed up your heart, and cause that jittery, wired feeling. Ergot alkaloids squeeze blood vessels too. Stacking the two together could add up and push blood pressure higher or reduce blood flow to your hands, feet, and other areas.
I'll be honest, this concern comes from anecdotal reports, not strong studies, so it isn't a guaranteed problem. But ergot itself is genuinely unsafe as a home remedy. Please don't take crude ergot, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with your patch.

Ergot is a toxic fungus that grows on rye and contains powerful chemicals (ergot alkaloids) that strongly narrow blood vessels and squeeze the uterus. Because raw ergot is poisonous and the dose is impossible to control safely, it should never be used as a home remedy or supplement. Some purified ergot chemicals are used as prescription drugs under strict medical supervision, but the crude herb is not safe to take.
