ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Sitagliptin
Sitagliptin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Eyebright interacts with.
Animal research suggests that eyebright lowers blood glucose levels.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep an eye on if you take sitagliptin (Januvia) and want to try eyebright. Sitagliptin gently nudges your blood sugar down by boosting your body's own sugar-lowering hormones, especially after meals. Some animal studies hint that eyebright may also lower blood sugar a bit. Stack the two together and, in theory, your sugar could drop a little lower than expected, which might show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling hungry or foggy.
I want to be honest with you though: this concern comes only from lab and animal work, not from people, so the real-world risk looks small. Sitagliptin is not a prodrug, so there's no metabolism trick to worry about here. If you're checking your sugars and want to add eyebright, just loop in your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Eyebright
What is Eyebright?
- Eye irritation and redness
- Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
- Eye strain
- Allergy and cold-related eye symptoms
- Nasal congestion and hay fever
Eyebright is a traditional herb long used for minor eye irritation, redness, and allergy symptoms, but high-quality human studies are very limited. There is not enough reliable evidence to confirm it works, and using non-sterile herbal preparations in the eye carries a real risk of infection, so talk to your pharmacist or doctor before trying it.

Sitagliptin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Sitagliptin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Eyebright — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
