Here's the gist for glyburide: this medicine already pushes your pancreas to release insulin, which lowers your blood sugar. Some early animal studies hint that eyebright may also nudge blood sugar downward. If both work in the same direction, the worry is that they could stack up and drop your sugar a little too low.

Honestly though, this is a theoretical concern based only on lab and animal research, not real human evidence, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, it's smart to know the signs of low blood sugar with glyburide: shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, or a racing heart. If you want to try eyebright, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up first and keep an eye on your glucose readings.

What Is Glyburide Used For?

Brand names: Diabeta, Micronase, Glynase, Glycron, Micronized, Glynase PresTab, Albert Glyburide

Glyburide tablets are used alongside diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the body produces dangerous levels of acids called ketones).

Glyburide may be used alone or combined with metformin when metformin alone is not enough. It can also be used to help transition patients who are moving from insulin or other diabetes pills to a new regimen, under a doctor's guidance.
