Why this applies to Aspirin, Oxycodone

Aspirin, Oxycodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Hibiscus Sabdariffa interacts with.

Theoretically, Hibiscus sabdariffa extract might reduce the metabolism of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract inhibits CYP2D6. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Percodan combines aspirin with oxycodone, and the part to watch here is the oxycodone. Lab studies suggest hibiscus may block an enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one pathway your body uses to process oxycodone. In theory, slowing that pathway could let a bit more oxycodone build up, possibly making effects like drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing a little stronger.

That said, this is only test-tube evidence and has never actually been reported in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over a cup of tart hibiscus tea. Concentrated hibiscus supplements are the bigger question mark. If you take Percodan regularly and want to use hibiscus for blood pressure, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
