Why this applies to Budenoside

Budenoside falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hibiscus Sabdariffa interacts with.

Theoretically, Hibiscus sabdariffa extract might reduce the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract inhibits CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with hibiscus and budesonide (Pulmicort). Your body clears budesonide using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, hibiscus extract appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, your body might break budesonide down more slowly, leaving a little more of it around than usual.

Budesonide is a steroid, so higher levels could in theory mean more steroid-type effects (things like irritation in the mouth or throat, or with long-term use the usual steroid concerns). I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube work, and it hasn't been seen in actual patients. Casual hibiscus tea is unlikely to be an issue, but if you use concentrated hibiscus supplements daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
