Here's a little wrinkle worth knowing about. Dasiglucagon (Zegalogue) is actually a rescue medicine, not a daily diabetes drug. You use it in an emergency to raise blood sugar that has dropped dangerously low, since it tells your liver to dump stored sugar into your blood. So its whole job is the opposite of what hibiscus does.

The interaction on file is mostly about hibiscus possibly nudging blood sugar down over time, which is the kind of thing that could land you in a low-sugar situation in the first place. This is theoretical and based on how hibiscus behaves, not strong human studies, so don't panic. Dasiglucagon should still work to bring you back up. If you regularly drink concentrated hibiscus and have diabetes, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

Zegalogue is used to treat severe hypoglycemia — a dangerously low blood sugar episode — in adults and children aged 6 years and older who have diabetes. Severe hypoglycemia is a medical emergency that requires immediate action.

Zegalogue is not a day-to-day diabetes medicine. It is prescribed as an emergency kit to be on hand in case a person with diabetes becomes unresponsive or cannot safely swallow food or juice to raise their blood sugar.
