Here's the gist with hibiscus and your cough syrup. Dextromethorphan is cleared from your body mainly by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. In test tube studies, concentrated hibiscus extract appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, dextromethorphan could hang around a bit longer and feel a little stronger, meaning more chance of drowsiness, dizziness, or an upset stomach.

The honest part: this is only a theoretical concern from lab work, and it has never actually been reported in people. A cup or two of hibiscus tea is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated hibiscus supplements are the bigger question mark. If you use both regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor to be safe.

Here's the gist with hibiscus and your cough medicine. Dextromethorphan is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies (done in test tubes, not people) suggest concentrated hibiscus extract might slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more dextromethorphan linger in your system, which might mean slightly more drowsiness, dizziness, or an upset stomach.

Honestly, I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. It's rated minor and it's only theoretical, and a cup of tart hibiscus tea is unlikely to cause trouble. If you're using strong hibiscus supplements daily, just mention it to your pharmacist so they can keep an eye on things.
