Trazodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: lab studies suggest higenamine may block an enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear trazodone. If that enzyme slows down, trazodone could build up a bit and hit you harder than expected. With trazodone, that might mean stronger drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure (especially standing up), or a groggy, dragging feeling.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It comes from test-tube research only and hasn't actually been seen in people, so it stays theoretical for now. On top of that, higenamine itself can stir up your heart rate and blood pressure, which isn't a great mix. Please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

Here's the short version: your body clears trazodone using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish testing, higenamine slowed that same enzyme by about 21%. If that happened in real life, trazodone could build up a bit and hit harder. With this medicine, that might mean stronger drowsiness, dizziness, a groggy or 'hungover' feeling the next morning, low blood pressure when you stand up, or in rare cases a faster or irregular heartbeat.

Now the reassuring part: this is only test-tube evidence and has not been seen in actual people, so I wouldn't panic. Still, higenamine itself is a stimulant that can raise heart rate and blood pressure, which doesn't pair nicely with a sedating drug. Please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.
