Hydrazine Sulfate and Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide, Rifampin

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ISONIAZID

Theoretically, concurrent use of isoniazid and hydrazine sulfate might increase the risk for liver damage.
Hydrazine sulfate is a metabolite of isoniazid. Animal research shows that hydrazine sulfate might be responsible for isoniazid-induced hepatotoxicity.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Rifater is a combination of three tuberculosis medicines, and the one that matters here is isoniazid. Interestingly, when your body breaks down isoniazid, one of the leftover byproducts is hydrazine, the same kind of compound found in hydrazine sulfate. Animal studies suggest this byproduct may be part of what makes isoniazid hard on the liver.

So the worry is that adding a hydrazine sulfate supplement could stack onto that risk and increase the chance of liver injury, such as yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, nausea, belly pain, or unusual fatigue. To be honest, this is a theoretical concern from lab and animal work, not from strong human studies. Still, hydrazine sulfate is risky on its own and isn't recommended. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
