Ipriflavone and Infliximab-axxq

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS

Why this applies to Infliximab-axxq

Infliximab-axxq falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Ipriflavone interacts with.

Concurrent use of ipriflavone and immunosuppressant drugs might have additive effects on inhibiting immune function. Some patients taking ipriflavone experience subclinical lymphocytopenia; avoid concurrent use. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version for Avsola (infliximab-axxq). This is a biologic medicine that already lowers your immune system's activity to calm conditions like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or rheumatoid arthritis. Ipriflavone isn't broken down by Avsola or vice versa, so this isn't a liver-enzyme issue. The concern is that both can quietly push your immune defenses down at the same time. In some people, ipriflavone has lowered white blood cell counts (specifically lymphocytes), and stacking that on top of Avsola may add up.

In real life, that could mean a higher chance of infections, things like fevers, lingering colds, or sores that won't heal. Because of this, it's best to avoid using them together. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding ipriflavone, and keep up with any bloodwork they order.

About Ipriflavone

What is Ipriflavone?

Ipriflavone
  • Bone density and osteoporosis
  • Postmenopausal bone loss
  • Athletic performance
  • Tinnitus related to bone disorders

Ipriflavone is a synthetic isoflavone studied mainly for bone health and osteoporosis, but high-quality research has not shown that it reliably prevents fractures or builds strong bone. Because it can lower white blood cell counts in some people and its long-term safety is not well established, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
