Here's the simple version: hydromorphone (Dilaudid) is a strong opioid, and one of its main effects is making you drowsy and slowing your breathing. The concern here is that jackfruit seeds may add to that sleepiness, so stacking the two could leave you more sedated than expected.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is, though. The worry comes from animal studies only, not from people, and it's about concentrated seed extracts, not eating jackfruit as a normal fruit at the table. So enjoying jackfruit as food is very unlikely to be a problem. If you're thinking about a strong jackfruit seed supplement while on hydromorphone, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first, since extra drowsiness with an opioid is worth watching.

What Is Hydromorphone Used For?

Brand names: Dilaudid, Hydromorph Contin, Palladone

Hydromorphone is used to manage pain severe enough to require an opioid analgesic — when non-opioid medicines or other options have not worked or are not expected to work well enough. It is available in several forms: oral tablets, oral solution, rectal suppositories, and injectable formulations given into a vein, muscle, or under the skin.

Hydromorphone hydrochloride extended-release tablets are specifically for severe, persistent pain that requires around-the-clock opioid treatment for an extended period, and are only for opioid-tolerant patients — they are not for as-needed use. The high-potency injectable formulation is also reserved for opioid-tolerant patients who need higher opioid doses.
