Why this applies to Bivalirudin

Bivalirudin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Jackfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, jackfruit latex might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Jackfruit latex, which is the sap from jackfruit bark, contains chemicals that might increase the risk of bleeding. In vitro research shows that jackfruit latex contains a glycoprotein constituent that prolongs the activated partial thrombin time (aPTT) and reduces the activity of blood coagulation factors XIa and alpha-XIIa. Jackfruit latex also contains a protease constituent that has been shown to have fibrinolytic activity in vitro. Other parts of jackfruit, including the fruit and leaves, have not been shown to contain chemicals with fibrinolytic and anticoagulant activity.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: bivalirudin (Angiomax) is a powerful blood thinner given by IV, usually in a hospital during heart procedures. It works by directly blocking thrombin, a key player in clotting. On its own, it already raises your bleeding risk, which is why it's carefully dosed and monitored by your care team.

The concern here is purely theoretical. The sap (latex) from the jackfruit tree's bark contains compounds that, in lab studies only, slowed clotting and broke down clots. Stacked on top of bivalirudin, that could in theory add to bleeding (bruising, bleeding at IV or catheter sites, or harder-to-stop bleeding). Important point: the actual fruit you eat hasn't shown this effect, only the latex. Eating jackfruit as food is very unlikely to matter. Still, mention any concentrated jackfruit products to your doctor.
