Jackfruit and Flurazepam

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

CNS DEPRESSANTS

Why this applies to Flurazepam

Flurazepam falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Jackfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, jackfruit seeds might cause additive sedation when taken with CNS depressants.
Animal research shows that jackfruit seeds can cause sedation.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: flurazepam already slows down your brain to help you sleep, and it tends to leave people groggy, drowsy, and a little unsteady the next morning. Some animal studies suggest that jackfruit seeds may have a mild sedating effect of their own. The worry is that stacking the two together could deepen that drowsiness, making you sleepier, dizzier, or more wobbly on your feet.

Now, the honest part: this is theoretical and only based on animal research, not solid human studies. Eating jackfruit as a normal food is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated seed extracts are the bigger question mark. If you're using any jackfruit supplement, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads up so they can keep an eye on your sedation.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Flurazepam page

“Beer and wine sit at the top of this list for good reason. Alcohol taken with flurazepam (Dalmane), a long-acting benzodiazepine sleep medicine, can deepen sedation dangerously, a major-rated and well documented interaction.”

About Jackfruit

What is Jackfruit?

Jackfruit
  • General nutrition
  • Blood sugar support
  • Digestive health (fiber)
  • Antioxidant support
  • Wound care (traditional, latex/leaves)

Jackfruit is a large tropical fruit that is nutritious and safe to eat as a food, offering fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants. While its leaves, seeds, and other parts are used in traditional medicine for things like blood sugar and digestion, strong human evidence for these supplement uses is limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated jackfruit products for a health condition.

About Flurazepam

What Is Flurazepam Used For?

Brand names: Dalmane, Somnol, Apo-Flurazepam, Bio-Flurazepam, Novo-Flurazepam, PMS-Flurazepam, Som Pam

Flurazepam Hydrochloride capsules are used to treat insomnia. Specifically, they help with difficulty falling asleep, frequent wake-ups during the night, and early morning awakening.

Because insomnia is often short-lived, flurazepam is generally intended for short-term use. If sleep problems don't improve within 7 to 10 days of treatment, a healthcare provider should evaluate whether an underlying medical or psychiatric condition may be the cause.
