Apixaban falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Jackfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, jackfruit latex might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Jackfruit latex, which is the sap from jackfruit bark, contains chemicals that might increase the risk of bleeding. In vitro research shows that jackfruit latex contains a glycoprotein constituent that prolongs the activated partial thrombin time (aPTT) and reduces the activity of blood coagulation factors XIa and alpha-XIIa. Jackfruit latex also contains a protease constituent that has been shown to have fibrinolytic activity in vitro. Other parts of jackfruit, including the fruit and leaves, have not been shown to contain chemicals with fibrinolytic and anticoagulant activity.

Here's the simple version: Apixaban (Eliquis) is already a blood thinner that lowers your body's ability to form clots. The concern on file is that jackfruit latex (the sticky sap from the bark, not the fruit you eat) contains compounds that can also slow clotting in lab tests. Stacking two things that thin the blood could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk higher. That might look like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or bleeding that's harder to stop.

The honest truth is this is theoretical and comes only from test-tube studies on the latex, not from people. Eating ripe jackfruit as a food has not shown this effect and is generally fine. The caution is really about concentrated latex or bark products. Before trying any of those with Eliquis, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Apixaban

What Is Apixaban Used For?

Brand name: Eliquis

Apixaban is used to reduce the risk of stroke and dangerous clots traveling through the body in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm not caused by a heart valve problem). It is also used to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT — a blood clot in the leg) in adults after hip or knee replacement surgery, and to treat DVT and pulmonary embolism (PE — a blood clot in the lungs) in adults, including reducing the risk of those clots coming back.

Eliquis (the brand-name tablet and kit) is additionally approved to treat venous thromboembolism (VTE — blood clots in the veins) and reduce the risk of recurrent VTE in pediatric patients from birth and older, after at least 5 days of initial anticoagulant treatment. The generic apixaban tablet carries the adult indications only.
