Here's the concern with pairing Jiaogulan and alemtuzumab (Campath). Alemtuzumab is a monoclonal antibody that works in part by getting your immune system to attack the cancer cells, but in CLL it also strongly suppresses your immune defenses (which is why infections are a real worry with it). Jiaogulan, on the other hand, has shown in lab and animal work that it may stimulate the immune system, so in theory it could pull against what your treatment is doing.

I'll be honest, this is a theoretical interaction based on how these things behave, not proven in people taking both. Alemtuzumab is not a prodrug, so this isn't about how it's broken down. Still, while you're in cancer treatment, please don't start jiaogulan without first running it by your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Alemtuzumab Injection (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) Used For?

Brand name: Campath

Alemtuzumab (brand name Lemtrada) is approved for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) — including relapsing-remitting MS and active secondary progressive MS. Because it carries serious risks, it is generally reserved for people who have already tried at least two other MS medications without adequate results.

It is not recommended for people with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), a first episode of MS-like symptoms, due to its risk profile.
