Bendroflumethiazide, Nadolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Khat interacts with.

Human research shows that khat and its constituent, cathinone, can increase blood pressure. Theoretically, khat might reduce the effect of antihypertensive drug therapy. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Corzide pairs two blood pressure medicines: nadolol (a beta blocker that slows your heart and eases the workload on it) and bendroflumethiazide (a water pill that helps you shed extra fluid and salt). Both are working to bring your numbers down. Khat does the opposite. Its main stimulant, cathinone, acts a lot like amphetamine and can push blood pressure and heart rate up. So chewing khat can essentially fight against your Corzide and blunt how well it controls your pressure.

In practice, that could mean readings creeping back up, more pounding or racing in your chest, and headaches, even while you take your pills faithfully. Beyond that, khat is illegal in the U.S. and hard on the heart, so it really shouldn't be used. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything with Corzide.
