Pemoline falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Khat interacts with.

Cathinone, a constituent of khat, appears to have sympathomimetic effects and can increase blood pressure and heart rate. Theoretically, combining khat with other central nervous system (CNS) stimulant drugs might increase the risk of cardiovascular toxicity. Some CNS stimulants include nicotine, cocaine, sympathomimetic amines, and amphetamines.

Here's the simple version: both khat and pemoline are stimulants that rev up your system. Pemoline (Cylert) was used for attention problems and works by nudging up brain chemicals like dopamine, while khat does something similar through cathinone, which acts a lot like an amphetamine. Stack two stimulants together and you can pile on the same effects, so the worry here is mainly your heart and blood pressure. Think faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, and feeling wired or anxious.

This concern is based on how these drugs work rather than hard studies, so it's more theoretical than proven. Still, khat is illegal in the U.S. and isn't safe to use. If you have any questions about pemoline, please check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
