Here's the gist with Noni juice and nitrofurantoin: this isn't about one changing how the other works in your body. Instead, it's about a shared risk. Noni has been linked, in rare reports, to liver irritation, and nitrofurantoin (Macrobid, Macrodantin) can occasionally stress the liver too, especially with longer courses. Stacking two things that can each bother the liver is the concern here.

I want to be honest, this is theoretical and based only on scattered anecdotal reports, so I'm not trying to alarm you. Still, since nitrofurantoin is usually a short antibiotic course, it's reasonable to hold off on noni until you're done. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, or right-side belly pain, and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Noni is a tropical fruit used widely in folk medicine and sold mostly as a juice or supplement, but solid human evidence for its many claimed benefits is limited. While moderate juice intake is generally well tolerated, there are rare reports of liver problems, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding. About Nitrofurantoin

What Is Nitrofurantoin Used For?

Brand names: Macrodantin, Furadantin, Furatoin, Macrobid

Nitrofurantoin is used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by certain susceptible bacteria. The capsule forms (including Macrodantin) are indicated for UTIs due to susceptible strains of Escherichia coli, enterococci, Staphylococcus aureus, and certain strains of Klebsiella and Enterobacter species. Nitrofurantoin oral suspension (Furadantin) is indicated for adults and children 1 month of age and older for the same types of UTIs.

Nitrofurantoin is not used for kidney infections (pyelonephritis) or infections of the tissue around the kidney (perinephric abscesses). Because it works primarily in the urine and does not spread widely through body tissues, it may not fully clear the infection in some patients, and the UTI may return after treatment.
