Cabazitaxel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.

In vitro research shows that a methanol extract of Padang cassia inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, taking Padang cassia with CYP3A4 substrates might increase the effects and side effects of these substrates.

Here's the gist for cabazitaxel (Jetvana). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this chemo drug out of your body. Lab studies suggest that concentrated Padang cassia (a cassia cinnamon) may slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let cabazitaxel build up higher than intended, which might worsen its side effects like low white blood cell counts, infections, fatigue, nausea, or diarrhea.

Keep in mind, this is only test-tube evidence, not proven in people. Sprinkling cinnamon on your food is very unlikely to cause trouble. But cabazitaxel is a potent chemo medicine with little room for error, so before taking any concentrated cinnamon supplement, please check first with your oncology team or pharmacist.

Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice.
