These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Padang Cassia interacts with whole categories of medication. Chlorpropamide falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Padang Cassia in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Chlorpropamide
Chlorpropamide falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the deal with Padang cassia and your chlorpropamide. This type of cinnamon naturally contains coumarin, which in very large amounts can stress the liver. Chlorpropamide can occasionally be hard on the liver too, so the worry is that piling both together might add up and make liver trouble a bit more likely in sensitive folks.
I'll be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on how these things work, not strong human studies. Sprinkling cinnamon on your oatmeal is not a problem. The caution is really about concentrated cinnamon supplements taken daily. If you have any liver concerns or want to use cinnamon capsules, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
2 of 2Chlorpropamide also falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Chlorpropamide (Diabinese) already pushes your blood sugar down by nudging your pancreas to release more insulin. Some lower-quality studies suggest that concentrated cinnamon like Padang cassia may also lower blood sugar a bit. Stack the two together and the effects can add up, which could drop your numbers lower than you intended.
If that happens, you might notice signs of low blood sugar: shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, or feeling confused. Chlorpropamide is long-acting, so a low can linger. The evidence here is modest and theoretical, so don't panic. Sprinkling cinnamon on your oatmeal is unlikely to matter, but a daily capsule is a different story. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a supplement, and keep monitoring your sugars.

About Padang Cassia
What is Padang Cassia?
- Adding flavor to food
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Antimicrobial purposes
- Antioxidant support
Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.
