In vitro research shows that a methanol extract of Padang cassia inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, taking Padang cassia with CYP3A4 substrates might increase the effects and side effects of these substrates.

Here's the simple version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down Elagolix (Orilissa). In a lab dish, a concentrated extract of Padang cassia cinnamon slowed that enzyme down. If that held true in people, your Elagolix could clear a bit more slowly and build up, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like hot flashes, headache, nausea, trouble sleeping, or mood changes.

I want to be honest though: this is only test-tube data, not something proven in real patients, so it's more theory than fact. Sprinkling cinnamon on your oatmeal is not a concern. The question is really about daily concentrated cinnamon capsules. If you're considering those, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. Orilissa (elagolix) is used to treat moderate to severe pain associated with endometriosis — a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing significant pain.

This includes general pelvic pain as well as pain during sex (dyspareunia). How long you can take it depends on your dose and your overall health, so your prescriber will tailor the treatment duration to you.
