Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Indinavir
Indinavir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Indinavir (Crixivan): your liver clears it using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest that concentrated Padang cassia (cassia cinnamon) extract may slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in your body, indinavir could build up higher than expected, which might mean more side effects like nausea, stomach pain, headache, or the kidney stones this drug is already known for.
I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's only based on test-tube research, so it's theoretical and far from proven. Sprinkling cinnamon on your food is very unlikely to matter. The bigger question is concentrated cinnamon capsules. Before starting any cinnamon supplement, please run it by your pharmacist or HIV doctor first.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), Acacia Rigidula (moderate) and Adrafinil (moderate).
By severity: 3 major · 109 moderate · 38 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Indinavir page
“St. John's wort can drop indinavir (Crixivan) levels far enough to cause HIV treatment failure and viral resistance, which is why this list calls for real care before adding any supplement.”

About Padang Cassia
What is Padang Cassia?
- Adding flavor to food
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Antimicrobial purposes
- Antioxidant support
Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.
About Indinavir
What Is Indinavir Used For?
Brand name: Crixivan
-
Indinavir is used along with other medications to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Indinavir is in a class of medications called protease inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of HIV in the blood. Although indinavir does not cure HIV, it may decrease your chance of developing acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and HIV-related illnesses such as serious infections or cancer. Taking these medications along with practicing safer sex and making other lifestyle changes may decrease the risk of transmitting the HIV virus to other people.
