In vitro research shows that a methanol extract of Padang cassia inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, taking Padang cassia with CYP3A4 substrates might increase the effects and side effects of these substrates.

Here's the gist for Cresemba (isavuconazonium). Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this antifungal out of your system. In lab testing, a concentrated extract of Padang cassia cinnamon appears to slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let more isavuconazonium build up, which might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like nausea, headache, low potassium, or liver enzyme changes.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube studies, not from people, so the real-world risk is uncertain. A sprinkle of cinnamon on your food is very unlikely to matter. Before starting a concentrated cinnamon supplement alongside Cresemba, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.

What Is Isavuconazonium Used For?

Cresemba (isavuconazonium sulfate) is used to treat two serious, life-threatening fungal infections: invasive aspergillosis and invasive mucormycosis. These infections can spread through the body and are most dangerous in people with weakened immune systems.

Cresemba for injection is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older. Cresemba capsules are approved for adults and children 6 years of age and older who weigh at least 16 kilograms (about 35 pounds).
