These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Padang Cassia interacts with whole categories of medication. Ixazomib Citrate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Padang Cassia in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Ixazomib Citrate
Ixazomib Citrate falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with combining concentrated Padang cassia and Ninlaro (ixazomib). This cinnamon naturally contains coumarin, which in large supplement amounts can stress the liver. Ixazomib can already raise liver enzymes and cause liver problems in some people on its own. So the worry is mostly additive: two things leaning on the same organ at once.
To be clear, this is a theoretical caution based on how these substances behave, not proof that they will harm you together. The cinnamon you sprinkle on food or in coffee is not the issue. The bigger question is concentrated cassia capsules. Since you're on cancer therapy, please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding any cinnamon supplement, and report yellowing skin, dark urine, or unusual tiredness right away.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Ixazomib Citrate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Ninlaro (ixazomib). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this cancer medicine from your body. In lab dish testing, an extract of Padang cassia cinnamon slowed that same enzyme down a bit. If that were to happen in real life, ixazomib could clear more slowly and build up, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like nausea, diarrhea or constipation, low blood counts, fatigue, or numbness and tingling in the hands and feet.
I want to be honest though: this is only theoretical, based on a test-tube study, not people. The cinnamon you sprinkle on food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated cinnamon capsules are a different story, so please run those past your oncology team or pharmacist before starting them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ixazomib Citrate page
“Anyone taking ixazomib citrate (Ninlaro) for multiple myeloma should give this list real weight, because a supplement that shifts this chemotherapy's blood level can shift how well it works against the cancer. Of the 168 ingredients on file, 121 act on CYP3A4, the enzyme that clears ixazomib.”

About Padang Cassia
What is Padang Cassia?
- Adding flavor to food
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Antimicrobial purposes
- Antioxidant support
Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.
About Ixazomib
What Is Ixazomib Used For?
Brand name: Ninlaro
Ninlaro (ixazomib) is used to treat multiple myeloma — a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow. It is not used alone; it is always taken together with two other medicines, lenalidomide and dexamethasone. This combination is for adults who have already received at least one prior treatment for their myeloma.
Ninlaro is not recommended for use as maintenance therapy or in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients on a lenalidomide and dexamethasone regimen outside of controlled clinical trials.
