Here's the piece of this combo product that the interaction touches: the caffeine. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to clear caffeine, and lab and animal work hints that Panax notoginseng may speed that enzyme up. In one animal study, caffeine blood levels dropped by about 37%. In plain terms, the caffeine in your tablet might wear off a little faster or feel slightly weaker, so you may notice less of that alertness or pick-me-up.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is early, theoretical evidence from animals, not people, so it may not amount to much in real life. It doesn't change how the acetaminophen, codeine, or salicylamide work. Still, if you take notoginseng regularly, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist, especially since this herb can also affect bleeding.

This combination pill contains several ingredients, but the interaction we have on file involves just one of them: the caffeine. Panax notoginseng may speed up an enzyme in your liver called CYP1A2, which is the main pathway that clears caffeine out of your body. If that enzyme works faster, caffeine could be broken down quicker, so you might notice less of the gentle pick-me-up or alertness boost that caffeine normally adds.

Honestly, this isn't something I'd lose sleep over. The evidence comes only from animal research, not people, so it's theoretical. It won't affect the pain relief from the acetaminophen or codeine. If you take both regularly and feel unusually drowsy or notice the product working differently, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
